Thursday mornings.
Recycling is every other Thursday. If there is a holiday on Monday
that week, pick-up will be that Friday.
TV6 and local radio stations are called to announce any delays due
to unforeseen circumstances, such as inclement weather. Every effort
will be made to post a timely notice on this website of such delays.
Garbage
Michigamme Township requests that your garbage be put out by 6:00

Frequently Asked Questions
WHEN IS CURBSIDE RECYCLING COLLECTED IN MY AREA?
Your recycling is collected every other week. Garbage is collected every week.
DO YOU REALLY RECYCLE WHAT I PUT IN THE CART?
YES. Your recycling goes to the Recycle906 facility run by Marquette County, where it is sorted and sent to processors that make new products
like cardboard boxes and packaging for food and medical supplies. We don’t mix garbage and recycling at the curb—our hauler may use the
same trucks for garbage and recycling, but not on the same day.
DO I HAVE TO PUT MY RECYCLING IN THE NEW CART?
YES. Residents must use the new cart to set out recycling moving forward. Recycling should be placed loose in the cart, not in plastic bags.
WHAT MATERIALS CAN I PUT IN THE RECYCLING CART?
Your new cart comes with information about what can be recycled, and you can find detailed information using the Materials Wizard on this
page. Here is what we collect in the recycling carts:
•
Plastic bottles, cups, tubs and containers #1-7
•
Aluminum and steel cans
•
Paperboard boxes (like cereal, crackers, etc.)
•
Cardboard (flatten)
•
Newspaper, junk mail, office paper, magazines, clean pizza boxes
•
Shredded paper (put in a paper bag and fold over edge)
•
Rigid plastics (like an old laundry basket)
All containers should be rinsed and empty. Replace caps on empty containers.
CAN I RECYCLE GLASS IN MY CART?
NO, glass is not accepted in your curbside cart but can be taken to the Township Hall. Starting in June, our Glass Only Recycle Trailer will be
open Mon-Fri 8a-2p except Holidays. Click here for the schedule.
CAN I RECYCLE PLASTIC BAGS OR PLASTIC WRAP IN MY CART?
NO. Plastic bags and wrap cause equipment jams at the recycling processing facility. Your household plastic film—like grocery bags, drink
case wrapping, cling wrap, and bubble wrap—can be dropped off at almost any large retail or grocery store for recycling. Most people save up
their clean and dry plastic film and take it to the grocery store every few months.
CAN I RECYCLE SHREDDED PAPER IN MY CART?
YES, shredded paper must be placed in a paper bag, stapled or folded shut to prevent spillage.
A RECYCLING CART WAS DELIVERED TO MY HOME, BUT I DO
NOT WANT IT. WILL YOU TAKE IT BACK?
NO. Households must use the new carts to set out recycling moving
forward.
WILL I BE CHARGED FOR THE NEW CART?
NO. Michigamme Township purchased these carts with grant funds
from The Recycling Partnership, a national non-profit working to expand
recycling access across the country, and Michigan EGLE.
WHAT IF MY NEW CART IS STOLEN OR DAMAGED?
Each cart will be assigned to an address and can be identified by its RFID
tag. If your cart is lost or stolen, please call Michigamme Township at
906-323-6608.
