Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is tasked with writing and maintaining the township’s master and recreation plan, annual capital improvements plan, and zoning ordinance. The Planning Commission also reviews and approves new development in the township and takes on additional tasks as requested by the Township Board.

The Planning Commission changed meeting dates from the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6 pm to the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7 pm on April 20th, 2023. The Planning Commission Meeting Dates are subject to change or cancellation. Please check with the Township Office (906-323- 6608) the week of the posted meeting date to see if changes have been made. Meeting notices will be posted on the Township Hall outdoor bulletin board and at the Post Office. All efforts will also be made to update the dates if they change on the Township website under the "Downtown Development Authority" or "Planning Commission" links. NOTE: Part 91 of Public Act 451 (Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act) states that if you are undertaking an earth change that disturbs one acre (43560 square feet) or greater for construction, or is within 500 feet of a lake or a stream, you are required to apply for and receive a Soil Erosion Control Permit before construction begins. Failure to obtain a Part 91 SESC permit before earth disturbance activities begin will cause you to be in violation of state law and be subject to fines and/or penalties. Please contact the Marquette County Conservation District (1030 Wright St. in Marquette) at 906-226-2461 for more information and to obtain a Soil Erosion Control Permit application.
